Meet Equine Artist Karen Brenner
For the past 20 years equine artist Karen Brenner been has creating oil paintings of horses. Realistic, with cheerful colors, would describe her unique style. And her goal? It has always been to capture beautiful moments in the lives of horses.
Photographing horses for reference material for her paintings is one of her favorite things to do. Karen has traveled throughout the United States meeting and taking pictures of horses for her “Beautiful Horses of….” series. Of course, meeting horses owners is another perk of being an equine artist. The artist says, “It’s always a joy to see the passion people have for their horses.”
Karen’s current series, Horse Ballet, depicts the elegant athleticism of her favorite subjects. Looking through her thousands of horse photographs, the artist was amazed by the graceful, athletic poses caught on “film.” The horses look like dancers – elegant ballet dancers! And, thus, a new series began!
Adventures of an Equine Artist
Karen has traveled to about 20 states throughout the past 20 years, and has photographed hundreds of horses. As mentioned above, her “Beautiful Horses of … ” series has lead to many wonderful encounters! She still has lots of states to cover, so watch for future announcements of upcoming states where she will be asking for ideas of horse farms to visit to photograph horses!
You’ll also see some of Karen’s paintings feature the famous white horses from the southern region of France known as the Camargue. It’s an equine artist’s dream world – filled with white horses – and wetlands. So beautiful! And what an adventure to experience a dozen horses splashing you with sea water as they gallop by. Karen’s ongoing series, The Beautiful Horses of the Camargue, will have new additions coming, since her 4,000 reference photos are always drawing her back to do more and more paintings.
